FAQs
What types of manuscripts do you copyedit?
Fiction and nonfiction book manuscripts and short story collections. Business (non-technical), marketing, web content, and other documents. Contact me if you're not sure about your content. Note that if it is less than10,000 words there is a minimum fee of $200.
What type of file do I need to submit?
A single Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx). I use Microsoft Word Track Changes so you can see my suggested edits.
What is Microsoft Word Track Changes?
Microsoft Word Track Changes keeps track of the changes made to a Word document and redlines them. You can then choose to accept or reject those changes, so you are always in control of the final draft. An easy-to-follow five-minute tutorial video on YouTube will bring you up to speed on its full functionality.
How long will it take to copyedit my manuscript?
It depends on the length of your document, but usually between one and three weeks. I can give you a better idea after I see your document. The timeframe also depends on your ability to get comments back in a timely manner.
What type of editing do I need?
If you are mostly satisfied with your book manuscript but know it needs a set of professional eyes, a copyediting service will be your best option. If you require structural changes, major content editing, and adjustments in tone, or critique, I suggest developmental editing first. I can provide you a quote after seeing a sample of your document.
Can you format my book or document?
My expertise is in copyediting and proofreading, but there are plenty of experienced book formatters on freelance sites, and I would be happy to recommend one.
